7th Syllabus

C’est la rentrée ! Bienvenue à la classe de 5me (Welcome back, 7th grade)!
Welcome to another exciting year studying French! We will do many fun things this year, such as :
-sing new songs
-cook
-write to our penpals
-dance
-read in French (Pauvre Anne)
-make movies
and celebrate Foreign Language Evening!
Our book will again be Amis et compagnie and after finishing level 1 in December, we will move on to level 2 come January.

A few expectations and various information are below.

Class meets three times a week for 55 minutes, Monday, 11-11:55, Thursday, 12:50-1:45, and Friday, 12:50-1:45.

Classroom Expectations :
1.     Be prepared: come to class with
-       a pencil
-       your textbook, vocab book, folder and workbook
-       your homework
2.   Arrive on time, have your things out and talk quietly with your neighbor.
3.  Have your homework done, otherwise you miss out on what we are learning.
4. Participate and take risks, answer in your head even if you are not called on.
5. No open cups of liquids in class.

Absences :
Please let me know prior to your absence, if possible. If you miss class, I still expect you to do the assigned homework. Look on the blog or ask a classmate. Let’s look at the blog together so you can find it !

Tests/quizzes : there will be regular end of chapter quizzes and a test every third chapter.

Study: use flashcards… prepare for tests…it is remarkably effective.

Test behavior : during tests, you are expected to stay in your seat and not talk. Tests scores will be affected by poor testing behavior.

Grading : Do all of your homework, participate in class, and do well on tests, and you will have a good grade. Your grade represents :

25% result of homework and projects
            25% from reading and assignments
25% result of quizzes and tests
            25% result of class participation

Class participation is very important. Be polite, listen to others, and speak in French.

Your books :
Please take care of them. They are not hardcovers and are not very durable. Keep them in your folder to protect them. They cost $25 each and if you ruin yours, you will be asked to replace it.

Translators :
Do not use them. On-line translators do your work for you and they do a poor job. You are expected to use your dictionary.

Extra Help :
I am available most days during planners : come and ask for help !

I am really excited to get back to learning French with you. I hope you are too !

Parents are welcome in my classroom. Please feel free to visit or if you have any French related activity, story, or other, please come and share. I would appreciate a week's notice so I can plan.

See you Wednesday!
