Writing accents on keyboards

Accents and cédilles 
On a PC :     
Accent aïgu:  control key + the apostrophe key gives you ´, but you won’t see the accent til you hit a letter to go under it.                                                    
            Accent grave :  control key + the ~ key in the upper left hand corner of the keyboard  gives you ` , remember, you won’t see the accent til you press a letter key 
             Circonflexe : control key + shift key plus 6 gives you the circumflexe
             Cédille : control key + the comma gives you the cédille
             Trëma : control + shift + colon

 On a Mac   
  Accent aïgu : option alt key + e = ´, hit the e again without spacing  you get é 
              Accent grave:  option alt key + `~ key in way upper left corner = è, again, don’t space between key punching
               Circonflexe: option alt key + i = ê, again without spacing  (like in fête)
               Cédille : option alt key + c = ç (like in français)
               Œ: option alt key + q  =  œ (like in sœur)
               Trëma : option alt key + u = ë (like in trëma)

To install French Spellcheck on a Mac or a PC :   
      In Microsoft Office, launch Word, then under « Tools », click on « Languages ».  Select French.  If it says you need to install dictionnary, you may need to insert the disk. Then go to « Tools » again and tell it to add French.
