French Trip to Montreal this fall

Dear Parent of a 5th, 6th, or 7th grade French student;

Welcome back for another fun, productive year at TGS! I am so looking forward to working with your children again in their new grades!

Here are a few dates to mark on your calendar:

a) Foreign Language Evening is going to be Thursday the 14th of November.

c) The Montreal trip to Collège Stanislas (C.S.), will be on January 18, 19, 20.

Planning for the Montreal Trip:

I will be taking a group of students north to Montreal again and, as mentioned above, we will travel north in January. The trip is an exciting opportunity to see Montreal through the eyes of a native French Canadian family. We will visit pen pals we have been writing to in French class.

Any student in French can come and the cost is minimal ($100). Those who traveled to Montreal last year are welcome also: you will have a new penpal and visit new things during your stay.

I would like to know, as soon as possible, which students would like to come along, so please email me if you have not already. To go on the trip each student must have a valid passport OR a certified birth certificate. A certified birth certificate is a notarized copy of a birth certificate.

Those students from TGS who are not comfortable staying in a household with the penpal alone will be paired with a TGS student in Montreal.

I will need some chaperones to drive, so if you as a parent would like to come, please let me know.

The Schedule for the Montreal Trip

We depart TGS on Saturday morning, arrive at the school (C.S.) in the early afternoon, where we gather briefly with the host families. Students then go off for a tour of the city and dinner out, with their family.

Sunday, we meet up for a group activity, then students again do activities with their host families. Finally, Monday morning, we meet at Collège Stanislas for a tour and visit with the principal, and then return to Vermont by dinnertime.

Collège Stanislas will be not be coming to visit this year, because there were too many students for us to host.

Please think about this exchange and discuss it with your child, and let me know if you will be joining us!

If you have questions, please come see me in the French room, or email me!

Thanks so much!
