Dear Student and Parent of a 5th, 6th, or 7th grader;

I am planning out some activities for the year and would like to let you know about a few events coming up.

First, we will be having a Foreign Language week celebration at the beginning of November. As details become clear, I will send home more information. This will culminate with the trip to Montreal on November 5,6, and 7th, for those students who are participating in our Montreal exchange.

Some words about our exchange.

I will again be taking a group of students north to Montreal, but as mentioned above, we will travel north in November. Collège Stanislaus will be coming to visit us in the spring, the weekend of April 14,15, and 16.

In an effort to make this exchange as comfortable and rewarding as possible for students, the teachers at Stanislaus and I would like to match students for the year. The goal is to allow as much of a connection as possible to grow between the students. We would like the pairings to carry through from corresponding, to visiting Montreal, to hosting in the spring.

Thus if Jimmy writes to and stays with Raoul in Montreal, Raoul will stay with Jimmy in Putney. Students will write to their partner and then see each others families and homes. There will not be any switch over between correspondents.

Students not traveling or hosting can still be penpals, but will not meet his or her penpal this year.

Each family should decide about their prefered level of participation in the Montreal exchange. Either your child will:

A) write to a student in Montreal, or

B) write and travel to Montreal and host the same student in the spring

Those students from TGS who are not comfortable staying in a household with the penpal alone will be paired with a TGS student in Montreal.

Please let me know at which level your child would like to participate in this exchange, by sending me an email.

Thanks,
Mme Jo
