Yesterday a number of students were missing from French class. We decided to play "Jeu de sept familles"...a traditional French card game similar to "Go Fish". "Jeu de sept familles" can be made from any grouping of like things. We have a set made by the class of 2010 when they were in 5th grade, whose theme is school objects, like folder (un cahier), pencil (un crayon), ruler (une règle), pen (un stylo), pencil bag (une trousse), eraser (une gomme), and scissors (des ciseaux).
There are 7 families and whoever can group together the most sets of families (each familiy has six cards...either different colors, or characters) wins.
Students used French game language like "Je voudrais un cahier" to ask a classmate for the desired card. This game allows children to use our current chapter's vocabulary in a fun way!
